New York Attorney General Letitia James secured a $2 billion settlement with bankrupt cryptocurrency companies Genesis Global Capital, LLC, Genesis Asia Pacific PTE, LTD., and Genesis Global Holdco, LLC. This settlement will help over 29,000 New Yorkers who lost more than $1.1 billion through the Gemini Earn program. It also bans Genesis from operating in New York.
The settlement will create a Victims’ Fund to compensate those who lost money. The fund will distribute any remaining assets from Genesis' estate to creditors. If these assets aren't enough, the fund will provide up to $2 billion to ensure creditors are fairly compensated.
The investigation found that Genesis and others hid big losses from investors. While Genesis did not admit to the allegations, the lawsuit will continue against other parties involved, including Digital Currency Group, Inc. and its CEO.

Safe Housing Act
New York Attorney General Letitia James announced an agreement with real estate broker Pasquale Marciano and his companies, Century 21 Marciano, Anthony Marciano Real Estate Inc., and New Roc Property Management, to halt discriminatory practices against low-income renters. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG), assisted by the Housing Rights Initiative (HRI), found that Marciano's agents violated laws by refusing to rent to individuals intending to use Section 8 Housing Choice vouchers.
Under the settlement, Marciano, who owns 13 multifamily properties in New Rochelle, must allocate nine units to tenants using Section 8 or other housing subsidies and pay $40,000 to the state. This agreement aims to make housing more accessible for low-income renters and ensure compliance with anti-discrimination laws.
Attorney General James stressed that discrimination against low-income New Yorkers is unacceptable and that this agreement will provide more housing opportunities for those in need. She also thanked the Housing Rights Initiative for their role in the investigation.
