The First Deputy Mayor serves as a principal leader in the Public Sector industry and the right-hand person to the Mayor, responsible for managing a wide array of governmental duties. Reporting directly to the Mayor, the First Deputy Mayor advises and assists in all policies, planning, and programs related to the governance of New York City. This role includes overseeing the implementation of city policies, managing city departments, and ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently. The First Deputy Mayor coordinates the activities of other Deputy Mayors, senior staff, and entities that report directly to the Mayor, promoting collaboration and consistency in policies and administration. Additionally, the First Deputy Mayor liaises with community leaders and stakeholders, maintaining communication with various commissions and authorities such as the Civil Service Commission, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. They act on behalf of the Mayor in all duties and assume executive responsibilities in the Mayor’s absence.
