The lesson plans you see here were ideated and drafted by high school and college students who work with the Youth Civic Hub, with oversight and guidance from a former educator. The Youth Civic Hub is a platform created for youth, by youth, which is why most of the content on our site is written directly by young people. This connects to our core belief that young people are experts on their own civic identities and have valuable experience motivating their peers to be civically engaged.

Explore And Engage
Students will explore various opportunities from the Youth Civic Hub's Opportunities Board, engage with at least two opportunities, and reflect on how these experiences shape their civic identity.
Exploring Civic Spaces
Students will identify different civic spaces in their communities, exploring their influence on civic engagement and democratic processes. They will utilize terms from the Youth Civic Hub’s youth-written Civic Glossary.
Exploring Your Representatives' Impact
Students will explore the role and responsibilities of their congressional representative, analyze their stance on a selected issue, and reflect on how their actions or inaction have impacted the community. They will conclude by developing a personal Civic Action Plan.
Identifying NYC Politicians
Students will explore different NYC State and City politicians using the Power Map, understand the authority State and City politicians have to do and learn more about the issues that these politicians focus on. By exploring and utilizing the Power Map, students will be able to produce a presentation on their assigned State or City politician.
Pitching Civic Solutions
Students will explore organizations in the Organization Directory to inspire and develop a social enterprise that addresses a community issue. They will present their ideas, demonstrating their understanding of key entrepreneurial and nonprofit principles.
